Replica of the historical Spanish ship that completed the First Circumnavigation of the Globe
Docked at Visitors Pontoon at Weymouth Harbour – Open to the public from October 2 to 6
October 1, 2025.- The Nao Victoria is sailing towards Weymouth, where it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and remain moored at the Visitors Pontoon at Weymouth Harbour. From October 1 to 6, this historic ship will take part in the Pirate Festival held in the city, where the public will have the opportunity to come aboard and explore this legendary vessel and its extraordinary history.
The Nao Victoria is a faithful replica of the famed Spanish vessel captained by Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano, which played a key role in one of the greatest maritime adventures of all time: the first circumnavigation of the globe, completed over five centuries ago (1519–1522), departing from and returning to Seville, (Spain).
Built from oak and pine using traditional shipbuilding techniques and meticulous historical accuracy, the Nao Victoria is a true masterpiece of Spanish naval carpentry. It has its own modern legacy too: between 2004 and 2006, it completed its own voyage around the world, sailing over 26,000 nautical miles and making port in 17 countries. Since then, it has continued sailing across the globe, visiting over 100 ports in the United States and Europe, and welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors as a floating museum.
During its stay in Weymouth taking part in the Pirate Festival, the public will have the unique opportunity to board the ship, walk its decks, and experience the remarkable journey its sailors undertook more than 500 years ago—an epic voyage of over three years, across the vast oceans of the world. Visitors can also explore the ship’s hold and learn about the daily life and experiences of the current crew, who continue to sail the seas today.
Weymouth is one of the UK port on its European Tour of 2025, which includes ports of call in Spain, England, France, the Netherlands, and Germany. Throughout this tour, the Nao Victoria will take part in important festivals and international events, serving as a unique and authentic floating museum representing Spain’s rich maritime heritage.
All the public can now book their tickets on the NAO VICTORIA Website tickets.fundacionnaovictoria.org so as not to miss out on this fantastic ship! Schools and associations should schedule their visit by sending an email to ecampos@velacuadra.es
