July 30, 2024.- The Galleon Andalucía is sailing to Poole. Today it will be docked at Poole Quay where it will be open for public visitation from 31st July to 4th August.
The Galleon Andalucía is an impressive faithful historical replica of the Spanish galleons that sailed through the world during the 16th to the 18th century. An imposing ship of 55 meters in length, six decks, made of iroko and pine wood, and almost a thousand square meters of sail area in its seven sails, built with careful historical rigor.
During it stay in Poole, public will be able to get on board, tour its five decks and learn about her details, how she sails, what life was like on board and the history of these ships. Part of the experience is boarding a ship that today sails the seas of the world with a young crew, who have amazing experiences on their long voyages. A true floating museum of our maritime culture that has already sailed more than 55,000 nautical miles across oceans and seas around the world, visiting ports on four continents, such as Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, New York or Quebec, spreading its history.
It stopover in Poole is part of its great 2024 tour, during which it is visiting various ports in Europe, to spread the knowledge about how these legendary Spanish ships that for three centuries connected the great continents of the planet. It has already visited several Mediterranean ports in Italy and the north of Europe, and from Poole it will continue its tour through several ports in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain. During this tour it is taking part in important festivals and international events, sailing as an authentic and unique floating museum of Spanish maritime heritage.
