June 29th, 2017.- The “Ships of Discovery” will arrive to the port of Wilhelmshaven (Germany) to participate at the Wochenende an der Jade, and they will be open to the public from June 29th to July 2nd. An historical Spanish nao (carrack) and a Portuguese caravel that ruled the oceans, discovered new worlds and opened new routes on the sea that would connect the whole planet during XV and XVI centuries.

They are the caravel Boa Esperança, the replica of the Portuguese ship used by Bartolomé Díaz when he passed the Cape of Good Hope in 1488, and the Nao Victoria, the replica of the Spanish vessel that some years later (1529 – 1522) achieved the first tour around the world in history with the work of two captains: Ferdinand Magellan and Juan and Sebastián Elcano.

Both ships are sailing togheter for the first time on a European Tour named Ships of Discovery Tour 2017, calling in ports of Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France, England and Spain. A unique event in which visitors will be able to board and tour the most symbolic vessels of those times.They arrive to the port of Oudeschild and will be open to the public from June 20th to 21th from 10am to 8pm.

Visitors on board will explore the most representative ships of the discovery eraand their extraordinary history, and know the authentic interiors of a 15th and 16th centuries vessels, while experiencing their meticulous craftsmanship and historical details”, says Soledad Gea, their project Manager.

From Wilhelmshaven, the ships will sail next July 3rd to Dieppe. We offer you the chance to become part of the crew of these vessels through their trainee program. You will be able to participate in the sails and docking maneuvers as well as learn other maintenance and daily works on these types of ships.
