The foundation bears the name of the ship that in the 16th century culminated the first act of globalization; the first sailing around the world. It is a non-profit entity, chaired by D. Juan Salas Tornero and promoted by andalusian public and private institutions.

It is also supported by the Andalusian Autonomous Government (Junta de Andalucía) and by framework agreements signed between the Foundation and many spanish organizations and institutions: Civil Service, Companies and Universities.
